New study shows Leuven excelling as a conference city!
New research from Visit Flanders confirms what many organizers and delegates already experience first-hand: Leuven is one of the strongest conference cities in Flanders. The 2024–2025 conference study shows an impressive satisfaction score of 8.9/10, placing Leuven firmly among the top performers in the region.
Sustainability as a standard
The study highlights a clear trend: sustainability is no longer optional. 85% of delegates consider ecological efforts essential, and Leuven earns high marks for its mobility approach and strong public transport connections. Sustainable venues and initiatives are increasingly influencing the decision-making of organisers, and Leuven is clearly ahead of the curve.
A city that supports its organisers
Beyond its compact charm and rich historic character, Leuven stands out for the highly professional support it offers to organisers. The Leuven Convention Bureau, a partnership between the City of Leuven (Visit Leuven) and KU Leuven, guides organizers in finding venues and arranging international events. In 2024 alone, the bureau confirmed 37 conferences, generating more than 27,000 overnight stays.
Strong international & tourism impact
Leuven welcomes a remarkably international audience: 73% of conference participants come from abroad. Their presence contributes significantly to the local economy, with an average spend of €1,167 per participant.
90% of all delegates undertake at least one leisure activity during their stay. The most popular choices? Dining and drinking, visiting historic sites, and shopping.
The research underscores Leuven’s identity as a high-quality, sustainable and welcoming destination; one that strengthens both local value and Leuven’s global reputation as a hub for knowledge and innovation.
